Here at SERENE STRENGTH, we are all on a journey to overcoming our anxiety through weightlifting. Our founder, Olivia Roemer (above) has been on her personal journey towards being anxiety free for the past four years. As someone with an intense love for team sports, transitioning to an independent culture of fitness in College offered a lot of new challenges. Weightlifting was what helped her fall back in love with exercise. It wasn’t until she learned how to approach lifting with a serene state of mind, however, that she truly felt like lifting was improving her mental health.
What is Serene Strength?
The idea of holistic health, or full person or body health, is the main tenant of SERENE STRENGTH’s identity. A person’s mind, body, spirit, soul, and heart all impact not only their well-being, but also their workouts! Once you learn skills like listening to your body, making correct modifications for workouts, and using your resources to help you work with your anxiety, you can achieve a sort of strength that cannot come from simply lifting weights.
For our founder, Olivia, like many other people going to the gym started as something based on aesthetics. When results didn’t happen the way she wanted, or when her schedule demanded she take a break, the mental aspect of going to the gym felt crippling rather than empowering. Her anxiety would increase as a result and the safe haven she created turned into an anxiety tunnel, where she could only see a glimmer of hope at the end but it was too far off to be worth the effort.
Things really started to change for her when she realized her spiritual life was impacting her time in the gym. Instead of the gym being something to dread it has transformed into being a place to glorify God and take care of her temple in a way that honors her creator. With our blogs, worksheets and personalized workout plans that are available upon request (COMING SOON), you too can find a greater purpose that helps your gym life feel more fulfilling.
Our Promise
At SERENE STRENGTH we promise to help you lower your anxiety surrounding fitness. We know it’s possible to go from your anxiety keeping you trapped in the locker room to being unphased when you don’t know how to use a new machine. Being strong is more than being able to lift heavy weights (which we still recommend), it is about being mentally strong and confident in your approach to the gym. Anxiety can be crippling, but we cannot let it control us. We want you to have a SERENE STRENGTH deeply inside your heart, mind and body. If you allow your mind to be open to new perspectives surrounding the gym, and consider some of our research backed advice, we are confident that you will have the mindset necessary to implement an anxiety free fitness habit.

Anxiety can play a huge role in what we as humans believe we can do, it should never keep us from bettering our health and setting us up for future success. This space aims to be a pocket for peace you as you begin or continue on your mental health journey.
SERENE STRENGTH is for those who need their anxiety change and don’t know where to start. We don’t focus on aesthetics, unlike most fitness blogs that cater towards women. Rather we focus on healing anxiety from the inside out through lifting and taking the journey along others healing from their own anxiety disorders.
