The American college of sports medicine recently released their projected top trends for the fitness community in 2025. Fast fashion and over consumption make me weary of any projected trends whether that be in beauty, fashion, fitness, or culture. However, a good way to prepare for the way the gym world may shift is by looking at trends. Being on trend is not necessary to overcoming anxiety through weightlifting, but these trends may be helpful for some. The real question is: are the trends silly or slay?

Wearable Technology

Wearable technology, such as fitness trackers and smartwatches, has transformed how people approach exercise by offering real-time insights into activity levels, heart rate, sleep quality, and more. These devices help users set goals, monitor progress, and stay motivated. With innovations like oxygen level monitoring and GPS tracking, wearable are especially popular among those seeking personalized fitness guidance and accountability in their health journeys. I personally am a huge fan of my apple watch. When I notice my chest feels tight or I am short of breath, even without exercising, being able to see my heart rate in real time is very grounding for me. I also love that it tracks my workout. The data I can look at regarding my exercise levels is incredibly insightful. The Oura ring is on my wish list for the future. I love how it gives people insight to their sleep patterns as well as other health factors. this projection is a certified slay in my book!

Mobile Exercise Apps

Mobile exercise apps provide convenient, on-the-go access to guided workouts, training programs, and wellness advice. Many apps offer personalized routines, tracking capabilities, and even virtual trainers, making it easier than ever to exercise from home or while traveling. These apps often foster a sense of community through leader boards and challenges, which can boost motivation and engagement. I have tried a variety of mobile exercise apps, but the paywalls and subscription fees never feel like they are quite worth my while. Much similar content and tutorials can be found on Youtube and instagram accounts ( follow these peeps for incredible free content ) . For me, this trend is a certified silly– but, maybe I just have app fatigue.

Fitness Programs for Older Adults

Tailored fitness programs for older adults focus on maintaining mobility, flexibility, and strength to support daily living and prevent injury are expected to become significantly more popular next year or so. These programs often include low-impact activities like yoga, Pilates, and light resistance exercises. By promoting functional movement and cardiovascular health, fitness for older adults aims to improve quality of life and reduce age-related health risks. This is not for my personal demographic, but I think that lifetime fitness is essential to a high quality of living. Certified Slay!

Exercise for Weight Loss

Exercise for weight loss combines aerobic and strength training to maximize calorie burn, boost metabolism, and build lean muscle. Programs often emphasize sustainable practices, including balanced nutrition and lifestyle habits such as sleep improvement, to foster long-term results. The focus is on creating a calorie deficit through various forms of exercise, from cardio workouts to strength routines that contribute to overall fat loss and better body composition. Many people find success through the guidance of generalized and individualized workout programs through apps, videos, and fitness blogs (like SERENE STRENGTH!) There is an often toxic culture online regarding weight loss that I do not in any way support. A journey to looking and feeling one’s best is for themselvesonly. I think prioritizing movement and eating whole foods is the best way to go. For me, this is a Certified Slay!

Traditional Strength Training

Traditional strength training, which includes exercises like squats, bench presses, and deadlifts, aims to build muscle mass, improve bone density, and enhance overall physical strength. Try this workout plan for a great way to start traditional strength training. Strength training is valued for its structured, progressive approach, often involving weightlifting and resistance work to target specific muscle groups. This is what we are all about at SERENE STRENGTH. Traditional strength training allows us to get stronger mentally and physically. When we feel strong with the weights we lift, we can feel strong outside of the gym as well. Strength training is an all time Slay for fitness trends!

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) involves short bursts of intense exercise followed by brief rest periods, maximizing calorie burn in a short time. HIIT is popular for its efficiency, allowing people to achieve fitness goals even with a busy schedule. This type of workout is shown to improve cardiovascular health, enhance endurance, and increase metabolism, making it a favorite for those looking to boost fitness levels quickly. Though I don’t have much experience, any kind of movement is good movement. I love how HIIT workouts add an element of cardiovascular condidtioning, something that I need to incorporate into my workouts more. This is also a slay for 2025!

Data-Driven Training Technology
Data-driven training technology uses real-time metrics and analytics to optimize workouts and personalize training. Devices and software analyze factors like heart rate variability, recovery times, and muscle engagement to guide performance. These forms of training tech are especially popular among athletes and fitness enthusiasts. If one watches film from a collegiate sport of any kind ( especially volleyball and basketball), players will wear harnesses wrapping over their chest and shoulders that is directly observing heart rate and other performance indicators. This technology takes the guesswork out of exercise, offering insights that help users maximize results and reduce the risk of over training. For everyday people, I wouldn’t recommend investing in something like this. For high performance athletes on scholarships or who exercise for a living- yes. There is a level of overthinking that can come from a need for control that can often plague those of us with anxiety. Don’t put yourself in a position to second guess every training programming due to the date- skip this silly trend so you don’t have to worry about one more thing.

Exercise for Mental Health

Exercise is increasingly recognized for its mental health benefits, including reduced anxiety, improved mood, and enhanced cognitive function. Physical activity releases endorphins and reduces stress hormones, which can alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. Programs that promote exercise for mental health focus on movement that feels good, encouraging a balance between body and mind. As one of the most epic slays on this list, SERENE STRENGTH cannot exercise enough as a way to alleviate any mental health struggles.

Functional Fitness Training

Functional fitness training involves exercises that mimic daily activities. These exercises improve strength, coordination, and flexibility. To try out this fitness trend, try movements like lunges, squats, and core work enhance balance and stability. Getting stronger in these exercises can helping people perform everyday tasks with ease. Functional fitness has become popular for its practical benefits, catering to a wide range of ages and abilities. Isometric or static holds ( remaining in a lunge position for at least 30 seconds at a time, or until failure) is one of the best ways to get stronger and remain mobile. Functional fitness training makes so much sense to me, and is definitely a slay that everyone should incorporate !
